The tui has bluey green feathers on it body. They have a tuft of small white feathers on their throats. The tail of a tui is long and dark to help them turn when they fly. The claws of a tui are sharp so it can hold on to a tree.
A tui’s normal diet is nectar, but it enjoy which are frequently eaten. Pollen and seed more occasionally.They eat nectar from kowhai and flax flower.
Tui show that they are extra clever and would make a good mate. Long ago,Maori kept tui and trained them to speak. Some even taught them to give welcome speeches to visitors.
Tui are found though much of NZ, particularly the North Island. You can often see and hear a tui in kowhai tree and Pohutukawa tree.
